Younus Khan will miss next week’s first Test against West Indies in Dubai as he completes his recovery from dengue fever.
The 38-year-old, who stuck a double-century at The Oval in August, needs another 544 runs to become the first Pakistani to top 10,000 in Tests.
But he will have to wait to close further on the milestone, after being ruled out of the start of a three-match series.
A Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman said: “Younus has informed chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq that he won’t be able to play the first Test.
“The selectors are yet to announce the squad, but it is confirmed Younus will not take part in the opening game in Dubai. He asked for rest to be fully fit before his national selection since he has recently recovered from dengue.”
