Hong Kong and shanghai stocks rose today morning as investors returned from public holidays to play catch-up with an Asia-wide rally at the end of last week. The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong — which was closed Friday — added 0.83 percent to 23,529.37 points by lunch. The benchmark shanghai composite index gained 0.61 percent to 3,021.02 points and the Shenzhen composite index, which tracks stocks on china’s second exchange, rose 0.93 percent to 1,998.57 points.
