Panama Papers: PM’s Children Submit Replies In SC

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s children have submitted their replies in the Supreme Court today.

The apex court has directed all parties in the Panama papers hearing to submit all documents relevant to the investigation by 15th of this month.

A five member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali noted in today’s order that no document will be admissible before the supreme court after November 15.

The order, however, made it clear that this does not curtail the powers of the proposed commission to call record from any agency or authority.

According to the replies submitted by the children of the Prime Minister, Maryam Nawaz is a regular tax payer while she is only the trustee of the properties mentioned in the Panama papers.

She has not derived any benefit from these properties. She is not dependant on her father. While the two sons of Prime Minister have been non resident Pakistanis conducting lawful business abroad.

The counsel for Prime Minister’s children informed the court that all documented proof will be furnished before the court.

On request of petitioners and respondent to widen the probe to all those who have been mentioned in the Panama papers, the bench observed that prime minister has offered himself for inquiry and as a test case, Supreme Court will only proceed against him to limit the scope of inquiry.

Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali said the supreme court will not leave anything unattended and will proceed in this matter expeditiously. The court will meet again on November 15.
