Commission For Inquiry Into Panama Papers

The Supreme Court has directed all the parties involved in the Panama papers proceedings to submit their proposed terms of references for the commission and their formulations by Thursday.

A five member bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali noted that the apex court will not cause any delay in this case but the parties involved must practice restraint and reconsider their hardened positions.

The bench said incase the parties to the proceedings fail to agree on TOR’s, Supreme Court will itself formulate the terms of references.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif submitted his reply through his counsel on the proposed commission that he will accept any form of inquiry suggested by the court and he will accept the ensuing consequences of the inquiry unconditionally.

The bench noted that the commission will be headed by a Supreme Court judge with all the powers and its findings will be binding on all the parties, after which the apex court will issue its verdict.

Earlier, the bench raised several questions regarding the property abroad and lack of documented evidence to establish wrongdoing. The bench will meet again on Thursday.
