Croatia international Luka Modric signed a two-year contract extension with Real Madrid on Wednesday that will keep him at the club until 2020.
The midfielder joined Real from Bayern Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 and signs the new contract just weeks after midfield partner Toni Kroos also extended his deal with the Spanish club.
The 31-year-old has secured two UEFA Champions League wins with Madrid, one Spanish Cup, one Spanish Super Cup and two Europe Super Cups. He has made 180 appearances for Real, scoring 11 goals during his time in Spain.
“It is a very special day for me. I am very happy and excited to renew my contract with Real Madrid, the world’s best club. ,” said Modric at a news conference in Madrid.
He added that he wanted to add a maiden La Liga title to his trophy cabinet this season.
“I have won everything but La Liga since I came here. I am only missing that and I hope to win it this year. I can say that our priority is to win La Liga this year because for a club like Real Madrid, not being able to with La Liga for four years is too much. That’s why our priority is to win La Liga,” said Modric.
The European champions have already announced a new deal for Kroos and are set to announce more for Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Pepe, Spanish media reported.
