”The Accountant” set to top the weekend box office

Action-thriller “The Accountant” is expected to lead the weekend’s box office.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, the film, which features Ben Affleck as an autistic number-cruncher in the titular lead role, is expected to take between $16 million and $20 million on its debut. The film reportedly cost around $44 million to make.

Also hitting theaters this weekend is the latest stand up comedy concert movie from Kevin Hart, “Kevin Hart: What Now?”

The funnyman recently dethroned Jerry Seinfeld at the top of Forbes’ list of the highest paid comedians.

Hart’s previous concert film, “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain” secured an openeing weekend of $10 million in theaters. Coming off the back of hits for Hart including “RIde Along 2” and “Central Intelligence,” “What Now?” is expected to do even better, with an expected take of $15.2 million.

The weekend’s only other major release is “Max Steel.” The film was concieved as a vehicle for Taylor Lautner in 2009 but stalled when he left the project. It was finally completed two years ago and has been sitting on the shelf ever since. “Max Steel,” which now features Ben Winchell in the lead role, is expected to take $3.8 million this weekend.

Holdover releases “The Girl On the Train” and “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children” are expected to take $11.9 million and $9.5 million respectively.
