Maleeha Speaks At UNGA’s 6th Assembly

Pakistan has urged that the proposed United Nations counter-terrorism strategy should focus attention on addressing unresolved disputes, foreign occupation and denial of right of self-determination as part of measures to stamp out terrorism.

Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi while speaking in the UN General Assembly’s sixth committee said the provisions of the draft convention against terrorism should clearly distinguish between acts of terrorism and the legitimate struggles for self-determination.

She said brutalization and oppression of people struggling for their legitimate right to self-determination constitutes state terrorism.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to eliminate terrorism, Ambassador Lodhi pointed out that operation Zarb-i-Azb had made remarkable progress in cleansing the country of terrorists. Ambassador Lodhi stressed the need for addressing the root causes of terrorism.
