Curfew re-imposed in IOK

Curfew was re-imposed in Indian Kashmir on Saturday after the death of a teenager due to pellet gun firing in northern Bandipora district.

According to local media reports, 13-year-old Junaid Ahmad was injured when police used pellet guns to disperse protestors in Saidpora area. He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Indian Interior Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier told lawmakers that the government would set up a panel to look for an alternative to pellet guns.

More than 80 civilians have been killed and thousands wounded in three months of protests.

Though curfew was lifted last month, restrictions on assembly of people under Section-144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) continued across the Valley.
