The United States has called Russia’s action in Syria “Barbarism” not counter-terrorism while Moscow’s U.N. Envoy said ending the war “is almost an impossible task now” as Syrian government forces, backed by Moscow, bombed the city of Aleppo. The united nations security council met on Sunday at the request of the united states, Britain and France to discuss the escalation of fighting in Aleppo following the announcement on Thursday of an offensive by the Syrian army to retake the city. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha power said Russia has told the council outright lies about its conduct in Syria. “Russia and Assad have reportedly launched more than 150 airstrikes over the last 72 hours killing at least 139 people and injuring hundreds more. Laying waste to what is left of an iconic Middle Eastern city. These are people who have suffered horribly in the five and a half years of war. Yet they call the attacks from the air unprecedented in quantity and quality.” The Russian envoy said hundreds of armed groups are being armed in syrai, the territory of the country is being bombed indiscriminately and bringing a peace is almost an impossible task now because of this. As Syria’s U.n. Ambassador Bashar Ja’afari began addressing the council, power, Rycroft and French U.N. Ambassador Francois Delattre walked out of the chamber, diplomats said. U.N. Syria mediator Staffan De Mistura briefed the council meeting on Sunday. He appealed to the council to come up with a way to enforce a cessation of hostilities in Syria.
