India writes to Pakistan to expedite 2008 Mumbai attacks trial

India has written to Pakistan, suggesting legal means, to expedite 2008 Mumbai attacks trial, said foreign ministry’s spokesperson Vikas Swarup on Thursday.

India has been pushing for swift justice against the seven suspects accused of playing a role in the Mumbai rampage which killed 166 people.

Swarup said Indian foreign secretary wrote to his Pakistani counterpart last week to speed up the trial, which is pending for almost eight years.

“In order to bring the guilty to book, our foreign secretary has recently written to his counterpart in Pakistan, suggesting ways in which the trial could be expedited through legal channel. He wrote this letter on 6th of September and it was delivered by our high commissioner in Islamabad on 9th of September,” Swarup said in New Delhi.

A Pakistani court issued notices to seven accused of the ghastly attacks, including mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, on a plea to examine the Al-fauz boat used by the 10 militants to reach the Indian coast.
